Outreach Services
Outreach services assists Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) funded agencies within
the Calgary region. It is a short term program with involvement of up to four months or 90 hours.
Outreach will work with the agencies problematic behaviours to increase the quality of the individual’s
day program.
The Supported Lifestyles outreach coordinator and the outreach behavioural consultant will meet with
the requesting agency’s team, individual and guardian to discuss the behavioural issues. The outreach
behavioural consultant with then gather information and observe the individual. After observation,
strategies are recommended and implemented with assistance from the consultant. At the end of
outreach’s involvement a final report is developed and sent to the guardian which includes a brief
profile of the behaviour and the strategies that worked.
Strategies may include:
- Staff training
- Situational coaching
- Psychological consultation and assessment
Outreach provides a variety of different training tailored to the agencies needs. Some of these
include: Positive Approaches and Restrictive Practices, Abuse Protocol, Boundary Issues, and
Introduction to Positive Behaviour Support. Any workshop will be developed based on the needs of
the requesting agency.
Outreach also offers a variety of focused groups for individuals from a PDD funded agency. Usually these
are 12 week sessions that occur twice a year. Outreach currently organizes three groups:
Women’s Issues Group, Men’s Group, and Anger Management. Registration information is available
upon request.
